Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomes 18% more tourists in the first 11 months of last year

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Agency for Statistics has reported that tourists, from January to November 2023, made a total of 1,621,831 visits, representing an 18% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Additionally, there were 3,431,903 overnight stays, marking a 13.7% rise from the same period in 2022.

The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists decreased by 5.8%, while the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 25.5% compared to the same period in 2022.

In the overall number of overnight stays, domestic tourists accounted for 31.1%, while foreign tourists contributed 68.9%. Among foreign tourists, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded by visitors from Croatia (14.2%), Serbia (12.3%), Turkey (8.1%), Slovenia (6.7%), Saudi Arabia (5.3%), Germany (4.8%), the United States (3.4%), and the United Arab Emirates (3.1%), totaling 57.9%. Tourists from other countries contributed 42.1% of overnight stays.

Regarding the length of stay for foreign tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kuwait led with an average of 3.8 nights, followed by Qatar with 3.3 nights, Egypt and Ireland with 3.2 nights each, the United Arab Emirates and Iran with 3 nights each, and France, Albania, and Bahrain with 2.9 nights each. In terms of accommodation types, the majority of overnight stays were in hotels and similar accommodations, accounting for 94.2% of the total.
