The recent disaster that struck Jablanica and other areas has rendered the railway line, which served as the main route for supplying goods to the Tuzla and Zenica-Doboj Cantons, unusable.
Brčko Port as an Alternative
Brčko Port has emerged as an alternative to that original transport route for goods.
Perica Josić, the director of Brčko Port, states that this port definitely has the capacity to handle a large volume of cargo. He hopes that, in the near future, it will not just be an alternative but the primary solution.
“Currently, changes are being made to the supply routes, and everything depends on the decisions of the overseas companies whose ships used to deliver goods to the Port of Ploče. The question now is whether those ships will continue to go to Ploče, or if they will shift to Split or possibly Constanța. If all those ships are redirected to Constanța (a port in Romania), then it makes sense that all those goods will be transshipped through Brčko Port,” Josić told RTV HIT.
He added that they are in constant contact with their clients and are on the right path to making this happen.
One Hundred Thousand Tons of cargo coming to Brčko Port
“I believe that within about six months, around one hundred thousand tons of cargo will arrive at Brčko Port,” he continued.
Josić announced that starting Monday, they will begin transshipping three thousand tons of goods from Zenica for export, as well as importing one thousand tons of anthracite for Lukavac. He explained that these quantities are part of Brčko Port’s planned transshipment for the current year.
