The natural monument Bosna River Source, spanning an area of 603 hectares, is situated at the foothills of Mount Igman, in the Ilidža municipality, approximately 15 kilometers from the center of Sarajevo.
The source of the Bosna River features beautiful lakes where fish swim and swans gracefully float, islands adorned with lush greenery, and the fact that during hot summer months, the temperature is several degrees lower than in the city of Sarajevo. These are some of the reasons why Bosna River Source has been a favorite excursion spot for the people of Sarajevo for over a century.
This area serves as a habitat for various plant and animal species, including some that are endemic. Mala Bosna, the stream into which six sources flow, is the habitat of the native species of brook trout.
Bosna River Source is also the location of the main source of drinking water for Sarajevo – “Bačevo.”
This recreational area is fenced and well-maintained, with benches for seating, covered resting areas, a playground for children, and at the central part of the complex, there is a restaurant specializing in freshly caught river trout.
